XP Installation Errors
You could be planning to install the latest version of your favorite operating system, say you wish to install Microsoft Windows XP on your new machine. If you are installing Windows XP without any technical assistance, here are a few tricks that can save you from unwanted hassles while you may work on your PC after the installation:

• The first rule is to keep an extra set of re-installing CDs/DVDs of your operating system. This comes in handy in tricky and emergency situations where your computer wouldn’t work.
• Install only updated and latest security software
• Remove unwanted and unnecessary applications from your computer
• Use a Web Browser that suits your purpose
• Regularly keep updating your applications

Though these tricks work for a long time, there could be some installation issues that could be lingering around the corner! During the Windows XP setup process, you see the following error message:

Uninstall Option Not Available. There is not enough Space to save your current operation system.

Your computer has enough disk space for Windows XP, but it does not have enough to save your current version of Windows for backup.

The backup image size is [number_of_megabytes]

It is recommended that you cancel Setup now, free additional disk space, and then restart Setup.

This error is generated when your Windows XP upgrade is not successful. The Setup program reports that there is not enough space to save a backup copy of your previous Windows version. Thus, before installing, always take a back up of your previous operating system so that in case the installation is unsuccessful, you still have an option to revert back to the previous operating system.

You can cancel the Windows XP Setup process by pressing ESC key form your keyboard. After you cancel the Setup, reboot into your existing OS and free up more drive space. If you have another partition in your system with sufficient space for this backup, choose this partition when prompted to back up the existing system files by the Setup program.

Some other common installations errors faced by many Windows XP users are:
Error Message 1: STOP: 0x0000000A irql_not_less_or_equal

This error message is triggered when you are upgrading your system from Windows 98/Me to Windows XP. It is generated when there is a problem with a device driver or a hardware device.

Error Message 2:
Fatal Error: Setup Cannot Continue. Please Contact Microsoft Technical Support. (Error: 3E6h)
or
WINNT32 this program has performed an illegal operation. WINNT32 caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL

You may face this error while upgrading Windows ME or 98 to Windows XP. This error indicates that a software application or a device caused the Setup program to crash. The second error message indicates that another application or program tried to access the same area of memory assigned to KERNEL32.DLL, one of the critical Windows DLL (dynamic-link library) files.

Error Message 3:
Fatal Error: An error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing. One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. Press OK to view the setup log file.

This error message occurs when the Setup program is unable to read from your Windows XP installation CD. Check if your installation CD is scratched or damaged. If it is damaged, then get a replacement from Microsoft.

Error Message 4:
Setup has disabled the upgrade option, could not load the file D:\i386\Win9xupg\W95upg.dll. Setup cannot continue, because this version can only install as an upgrade.

While upgrading from the previous versions to Windows XP, you may encounter this error as the Setup program assumes that your existing operating system is not eligible for an upgrade. One option to resolve this problem is to clean boot your computer and try running the Setup program after the boot process is complete.

Error Message 5:
STOP: 0x000000ED (0xaaaaaaa, 0xbbbbbbb, 0xccccccc) UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

(NOTE: aaaaaaa, bbbbbbb, and ccccccc represent various hexadecimal numbers.)

A possible cause for this type of an error is a damaged file system. This error is also generated when you are using a wrong cable with your UDMA drive and controller. For instance, you have a UDMA hard drive and motherboard controller but are using a standard 40-wire connector cable to connect the drive to the controller but the BIOS is configured for UDMA mode. Another possible cause of this error message is a damaged file system. To resolve this error you need to reset your BIOS settings after replacing your 40-wire IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) connector cable.

Error Message 6:
STOP: 0x0000008e or STOP: 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA

Basically, this error is generated when one or more of your system's RAM memory modules are faulty. To resolve the problem you need to remove the faulty RAM module.
